PAST EVENTS.
The Spatial Justice Summer Academy is a five-day, hands-on program hosted by The Earthly Advocate for high school students in the Detroit area. Through a mix of morning lectures and afternoon fieldwork, participants explore the intersection of geospatial technology, environmental justice, and community participatory research. Highlights include a Toxic Tour hosted by the Original United Citizens of Southwest Detroit, using air quality monitors; guest speakers from community and local government organizations; and a capstone project in which students build their own ArcGIS Online maps and StoryMaps to present their findings.
